Getting started

Here are the steps you should follow before you begin to edit the content of your site:

  1. Installing the theme
  2. Unlock Adomus menus by validating your Adomus licence
  3. Install HBook and HTestimonials plugin which are bundled to Adomus (standalone plugins).
  4. Unlock HBook menus by validating your HBook licence
  5. Load the demo content if you wish to start editing from there

If you wish to do some customization on Adomus, we recommend to create a child theme so your customization won't be erase when you'll update the theme.

Theme installation

  1. When you download Adomus theme, you get a zip file of the theme and it it simply this zip file that you will upload to install the theme.
  2. There are 2 ways to install a WordPress theme:

Using the WordPress installer

  1. Go to Appearance > Themes
  2. Click Add new
  3. Click Upload theme
  4. Click Choose file and select the adomus.zip file
  5. you downloaded
  6. Click Install now
  7. Once the theme has been installed click Activate Theme

Uploading the theme via FTP

  1. Upload the adomus.zip file into the wp-content/themes/ folder on your server
  2. Extract the adomus.zip file
  3. Once the theme is uploaded log into WordPress and go to Appearance > Themes
  4. Find the Adomus theme and click Activate

Theme updates

In order to add new functionalities, to stay up to date with the WordPress software evolution, to correct bugs, Adomus theme is regularly updated.

Updating does not affect the content of your site. Your posts, settings, plugins, themes, or your media files... will stay the same. Don't worry!

Notifications of an update release

Update your theme

If you want to update your theme, follow these instructions:

  1. Download the theme again from our downloads page :
  2. Backup your website!
    This is not compulsory but periodically backing up your entire installation (entire directory structure + database) is a good idea, especially before making any type of update to themes, plugins, core files, etc. Learn more about backups here.
  3. Upload the updated theme
    • Rename the existing adomus/ folder which is in the wp-content/themes/ folder in something like adomus_before_update_to_version_2 (so the previous version is saved in case something goes wrong).
    • Simply follow the standard FTP Installation instructions - upload the new theme to the wp-content/themes/ folder.

Theme licence validation

You received a Purchase code in the purchase confirmation email sent from sales@maestrel.com. If you can't find it, feel free to email us via the contact page here.

In Appearance > Adomus - Licence, you will enter your Purchase code to validate your licence.

When your licence is validated, you will see that all Adomus menus are unlocked:

Bundled plugins installation

Adomus theme comes with two plugins developed by us:

These bundled plugins are pre-packed with Adomus theme therefore their installation and activation are easy and quick. Follow the steps below:

  1. Select Appearance > Install Plugins

  2. Select both plugins, select Install in Bulk Actions, and click Apply

  3. Wait until the plugin are installed and activated.

HBook licence validation

You will use your Purchase code to unlock as well HBook menus. You can find this purchase code in the purchase confirmation email sent from sales@maestrel.com. If you can't find it, feel free to email us via the contact page here.

In HBook > Licence, you will enter your Purchase code to validate your licence.

When your licence is validated, you will see that all HBook menus are unlocked:

Demo Content Installation

You might find it handy to use the Demo site as a starting point to create your site. We have made it easy!

Note that loading the demo content will delete any previous posts or pages with their meta, sidebar settings, menus.

Note that this process might take several minutes. Be patient! When the demo installation is finished, a banner will appear with a message to inform you that the demo content installation is done.

In Appearance > Adomus demo install, you will find our demo installer tool.
To load the content and options of the Demo, follow the instructions below:

  1. Click on Demo content installation
  2. A pop-up window will open, asking you to confirm. Click OK to confirm.
  3. The installation can take several minutes. When it is done, a message will appear.

Booking system

The booking system that is included in Lavilla theme is our own booking system plugin, HBook.

Sections and templates

This section of the documentation presents the different page templates and gives details about Adomus sections, which is great tool for you to build a variety of pages with simplicity.

Adomus offers 2 page templates:


Adomus theme comes with a a choice of sections that will allow you to build your pages easily by choosing and arranging different sections. It is a great tool for you to build a variety of pages with simplicity. Each sections comes with its own settings and they are described below.

If you wish to use Adomus sections in a page, simply set it in Page sections:

  1. Set that you wish to use Adomus sections for this page
  2. You can select which sections you wish to add
  3. Here you can expand or collapse the section settings

  1. You can use several times a same section type.
  2. You can re-order the sections to your taste by dragging and dropping.


The different sections you can pick from are as follow:

  2. You can drag and drop the sections to re-organize them
  3. Here you can close the section or delete it


Pages

This section is a 2 or 3-columns section, which can be used to display different information contained in Pages.

  1. Add a tagline for the section
  2. Add a title for the section
  3. Enter the ids of the pages you wish to display
  4. Select if you wish to display the content of the page or the excerpt
  5. Select if you wish to link the title to the page
  6. Select if you wish to display a button Learn more
  7. Choose which type of link you wish for the featured image


Accommodation section

This section allows you to display your accommodation types. The featured image, along with the title and the hero tagline of the Accommodation type post.

  1. Add a tagline for the section
  2. Add a title for the section
  3. Select the accommodation types you wish to feature


Testimonials section

This section is aimed at displaying testimonials. It has different layout and navigation options.

The testimonials are created in Testimonials menu. Check this section of the documentation for detailed information.


  1. Add a tagline for the section

  3. Select the layout
  4. Choose how visitors can navigate from one testimonial to the other
  5. Choose which testimonials you wish to feature


Posts

This section is a two columns (in wider screen) to dislplay a list of your last posts: one column for the featured image of the post and one column for the excerpt.

  1. Add a tagline for the section
  2. Add a title for the section
  3. Enter the number of posts to be displayed.
  4. Choose a layout for the excerpt/ featured image
  5. Indicate if you wish to display meta information for each posts
  6. Choose which category/categories of posts you wish to be displayed


Video section

This section allows you to add a YouTube video:

  1. Add a tagline for the section
  2. Add a title for the section
  3. Enter a video introduction text
  4. Add an image for the background image
  5. Enter the YouTube video id
  6. Enter a ratio for the video (example: 16/9, 3/2, etc...)


Slider / Text / Owner image

This section is a 2 or 3-columns section, which can be used for a welcome word or any other presentation. Colums are respectively a slider of images, a text and an image. You can set it so it displays:

  1. Add a tagline for the section
  2. Add a title for the section
  3. Enter your text for the text column
  4. Add an image for the image column for medium/large screen
  5. Add an image for the image column for smaller screen
  6. Select the images for the slider
  7. Indicate the autoplay speed


Text / Image

This section is a 2 columns section, which can be used for a present some features or information.

  1. Add a tagline for the section
  2. Add a title for the section
  3. Select the layout
  4. Enter your text for the text column
  5. Add an image


This section allows you to display a gallery of images with an introduction text.

  1. Add a tagline for the section
  2. Add a title for the section
  3. Select the layout: if you do not wish to include a text, select "Description center".
  4. Enter a description here
  5. Select the images for the gallery section
  6. Enter the text that will be displayed as a link to your gallery page (optional)
  7. Enter here the id of the gallery page to link to (optional)


Call to action

This section allows you to dislplay a call to action.

  1. Enter the text to be displayed
  2. Enter thetext for the link
  3. Indicate the id of the page to link to.


Contact / Map

In order to display maps on your website, you need to :

  1. get a Google API key. Please refer to this page: Get API Key
  2. enter the Google API key in Appearance > Customize > Map. Please check this section of Adomus documentation.

This section is a one or two-columns section that can display a contact form, a map or/and contact information. The layout options are:

  1. Select the layout
  2. Select the positionof an element (Map, Contact) depending on the layout chosen
  3. Add a tagline for the contact form or the contact information
  4. Add a title for the contact form or the contact information
  5. Enter here your contact information (if selected in the layout)
  6. Select the type of map to display
  7. Add the zoom for the map
  8. Enter here the latitude of the first point
  9. Enter here the longitude of the first point
  10. Add the caption text
  11. Click here to add another point and proceed the same way

The contact form display the fields as set in Contact menu.


Editor content section

If you wish to display the content of the default editor, use this section.


Custom content section

If you wish to display custom content, use the editor of this custom content section.


Hero options

This section of the documentation presents the different options Adomus offers for the hero.
It deals as well with advanced template layout additional hero options.


An image as a hero

If you wish to have an image as hero, you can either use the featured image or another image.


A slider as a hero

If you choose to have a slider as a hero, just select which slider you wish to have.

A custom hero

You can choose to have a custom slider ; you will enter a shortcode to be executed.


A video as a hero

You can choose to have a You Tube video as hero:

  1. Select Video as Hero type
  2. Enter the video id
  3. Enter a ratio for the video (example: 16/9, 3/2, etc...)
  4. Add the background image to be shown before video is played

Sliders

You can re-order slides by dragging and dropping.

Testimonials

Contact

Contact details

In the menu Appearance > Adomus Contact details, you will be able to set your contact details information.
In Appearance > Widgets, you can add the widget "Contact Details".

Please refer to Header and Footer section of the documentation.


Contact form

In the menu Appearance > Contact Form, you will be able to build your contact form and to define the email settings.
This information will be used:

Customizer

You can access to the customizer from the menu Appearance->Customize. The customizer has different sections:


Hero

In this section of the customizer, you can add your logo and set the default settings for the hero:

  1. Select the image for your logo. Leave it empty if you wish to diplay your blog title.
  2. Choose the default hero image
  3. Choose the default title position: inside hero or below hero
  4. Choose the default hero ratio
  5. Choose the default hero minimum height
  6. Choose the default hero maximum height

Note that you can override the default settings for a post or a page. Please refer to Hero options section of the documentation.


Colors

Here you can change the accent color, the color when hovering on links, the header background color and you can as well set the color and opacity of the overlay. It is pretty straightforward:


Map

This section allows you to enter the Google Map API key which is needed for the maps to be displayed.

To get you Google Map API key, please refer to this page: Get API Key.


Misc

This section is only for the padding between images in gallery section.


This section allows you to customize the footer:

  1. Add a copyright text
  2. Insert here your social media links


Custom CSS

You can add custom CSS in this section of the customizer, which means you can check directly the changes.

Strings customization and translations

In the menu Appearance > Adomus theme strings, you will be able to easily customize or translate all strings of Adomus theme.

Multi-language

In order to create a multi-language website you will need to use a multi-language plugin. There are several multi-language plugins available. Adomus theme is compatible with WPML and Polylang.

Translate Accommodation pages with WPML

Once you have activated and configured WPML plugin you need to make the "Accommodation Custom posts" translatable.

  1. Click Translation options
  2. Select Translate
  3. Click Save

You can now translate the Accommodation pages. Note that you don't have to enter the Accommodation settings in the translated page again (except the Description fields).

Translate Accommodation pages with Polylang

Once you have activated Polylang plugin you need to make the "Accommodation" translatable.

  1. Click Languages to access the Polylang setting page
  2. Check the Accommodation box
  3. Click Save Changes

You can now translate the Accommodation pages. Note that you don't have to enter the Accommodation settings in the translated page again (except the Description fields).

Theme translation

Adomus theme follows the standards of WordPress internationalization. Below are instructions on how to translate Adomus theme with Poedit.

Note: these instructions would be the same for any other internationalized theme. You can learn more about translation and WordPress here: http://codex.wordpress.org/Translating_WordPress.

  1. Download and install Poedit
  2. Open the adomus/languages/default.pot file in Poedit
  3. Create your .po and .mo files by going to File -> Save as...: choose the wp-content/themes/adomus/languages/ folder and add the correct locale to name the file name (for example for a French translation: fr_FR.po)
  4. Translate the strings you will use on your website
  5. Save again to update the .po and .mo files
